The ouroboros — the depiction of a snake eating its tail — is an ancient symbol of cyclicality and constant re-creation, like a record on repeat that sounds a little better each time it starts over again. Ouroboros was also the title of one of the tracks on The Mars Volta's 2008 symbolism-laden album, The Bedlam in Goliath. This meaning and connection drove inspiration, and the result was a gig poster design that marries conceptual symbolism and rock music grit.
The poster design marked the band's September, 2008 NYC stop at the Hammerstein Ballroom in Manhattan while touring for the release of the album.
